Name: Krissy Mclellan
Location: Hearing Aid Practictioner at Canadian Hearing Care, Thorncliffe, AB

“I want to help re-connect people who have been missing the simple joys in life which is hearing.”

Krissy joined the Canadian Hearing Care clinic in 2007 as a receptionist. After a few years working in the front, her focus changed so that she could help in other ways. She decided to go back to school full time and now has a diploma from Grant McEwan as a Hearing Aid Practitioner. Her years working as a receptionist has helped her understand how important every role is to deliver the best service to her clients. She believes that her job serves a very important purpose.

“I want to help re-connect people who have been missing the simple joys in life which is hearing,” says Krissy. “It is about improving quality of life with being able to hear. We all take hearing for granted but once we lose that ability, it can be very debilitating.”

One of the ways Krissy helps to re-connect people with hearing loss is through the National Campaign for Better Hearing which awards hearing aids to those who need them, but can’t afford them. For every free hearing test taken with the campaign’s sponsors, $4.00 is donated towards this charitable cause. The campaign particularly focuses on Canadians over the age of 60 because 47% of Canadians this age or older have hearing loss and many of them are not aware.

“The Campaign for better hearing is such a crucial necessity,” says Krissy. “Everyone should be getting their hearing tested if they are 60 or older. The campaign reminds us that we should learn to take the time to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.”

A few interesting things about Krissy is that she is from Quebec and can speak two languages, she has a daughter who is the best thing that has ever happened to Krissy, and she is also a huge animal lover; she owns a cat, a dog and a fish. If she could live in a bigger house to be able to have more animals, she definitely would!
