Itayi Gift Bunhu, a beneficiary of the Campaign for Better Hearing’s Give-back program, held back tears while being fitted for a brand new set of hearing aids.

“First, I would like to thank Anderson Hearing for choosing me as a recipient,” says Itayi, “I have struggled with hearing loss since I was five years old and I believe being a recipient of this award will make my life easier. Now, I will be able to hear those around me.”

The Campaign for Better Hearing’s Give-back programs gives hearing aids to those who need them, but can’t afford them. These hearing aids are funded by our generous sponsors. For every free hearing test taken at our sponsor clinics, $4.00 is donated towards hearing aids that will then be gifted to Canadians who need them most.

Itayi was nominated by Jennifer Panteluk, a Hearing Aid Practitioner at Anderson Hearing Centres in Edmonton. Like most people with hearing loss, Itayi found it difficult to communicate with people.

“Sometimes people can’t understand why I can hear just fine at one time and other times not at all,” adds Itayi. “Most people with hearing loss usually read peoples’ lips to understand better.”

Itayi plans to have a business in the future; his new hearing aids will help to amplify sounds around him as he works towards his goal. We wish him success and we are happy that the Campaign for Better Hearing was able to help!
