Name: Valerica Dubois, Audiologist

Location: HearingLife Canada, Winnipeg, MB

“It’s great to learn that a client is happy; that they can hear birds sing; that they can go to a coffee shop and enjoy…”

Val has been working as an Audiologist and Hearing Aid Practitioner since 1996.  She has a Masters’ degree in Audiology and has been working at the St. James clinic since 2003.

Thanks to Val’s nomination, our recent Award Recipient, Arlene Lietiphin was given state-of-the-art hearing aids to help her cope with hearing loss.

For Val, the best part of being an Audiologist is being able to see firsthand the improvements in her clients’ life once their hearing is restored.  “Family members are thrilled that they don’t have to talk so loud,” Val says.  “It’s great to learn that a client is happy; that they can hear birds sing; that they can go to a coffee shop and enjoy conversation with friends; they don’t have to ask people to repeat two or three times. And last but not the least, when they are happy that family is no longer nagging them that the TV is too loud!”

As for her hobbies, Val enjoys reading and cooking but most of the time she is being a Supermom, driving her daughter to all her after school activities.

Val is extremely passionate about the rich culture in Winnipeg. She loves the hot summers – going to the Folk Fest, fringe festival and Folklorama, as well as relaxing at the beach and cottage.  In the winter she loves to cross country ski, snowmobile and watch her daughter curl, while indoor activities include going to the symphony, theatre and ballet.
