Florence Clegg

Florence Clegg experienced fright, anger, and depression because she could not hear while she was out in public. She also found it difficult to hear family conversations or enjoy watching television, so when she learned that she would be awarded a brand new pair of hearing aids thanks to the National Campaign for Better Hearing’s Give-back Program, she was overwhelmed with happiness.

“I am so happy with these hearing aids,” says Florence. “Speech is so clear even in situations with background noise. I no longer have to use the closed caption while watching television. The fit is great. They don’t pop out like my old ones. Now, I can hear if the water is running in another room as well; I can hear it from my couch in the living room. I am very grateful for these hearing aids. They will give me peace of mind because if my old hearing aids stopped working, I would not know what I would do in regards to purchasing new ones.”

Florence was nominated by hearing specialist Adela Rocca from HearingLife in Woodbridge. For every free hearing test taken through HearingLife and the campaign’s additional sponsors, $4.00 is donated towards the purchase of hearing aids for Canadians who need them, but can’t afford them. For Florence, hearing aids represent a major improvement in her quality of life.

“For those on the fence about getting hearing aids, I would tell them all about my past experiences without hearing aids and how much better my quality of life is now that I wear hearing aids,” says Florence. “I no longer cry with frustration, especially during family gatherings, because I cannot hear. Voices are no longer muffled. I feel that I can now participate in social gatherings.”
