Name: Teresa Blimkie
Location: Hearing Aid Practitioner at Anderson Hearing Centres, Edmonton, Alberta
“Three of my five children were born with hearing loss. With my experience dealing with their hearing loss, the hearing industry seemed like an excellent field for me to be in to help others.”
Teresa Blimkie’s determined spirit pushes her to excel at anything she chooses to be a part of. Of course, what matters most to her is her family, and it was her family that inspired her to get into the hearing industry.
“3 of my 5 children were born with hearing loss,” says Teresa, “the hearing industry seemed like an excellent career choice.”
Teresa went on to pursue her education at McEwan University where she graduated from the Hearing Aid Practitioner Program in 2000. Since June 2010, Teresa has been working at Anderson Hearing Centres to improve the hearing experience for all of her clients. “Helping people and making a difference is the most satisfying part of my job,” says Teresa.
The National Campaign for Better Hearing helps Teresa make that difference in the lives of so many people. For every free hearing test taken, the sponsors of the campaign donate $4.00 towards the purchase of aids for those who really need them. The campaign encourages everyone over 60 years of age to get their hearing tested.
“The Campaign for Better Hearing allows me to give back and ensure that those who need assistance have that option available to them,” states Teresa. “It is also a great way to educate those who may have a hearing loss on how to recognize some of the issues that can arise from leaving hearing loss untreated.”
