HEARINGLIFE CANADA: TAMMY CASWELL

Name: Tammy Caswell

Location: Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner at HearingLife Canada, Lethbridge Alberta

“We take hearing for granted, but when I help someone hear birds for the first time in years OR have a purposeful conversation with a family member or friend without anyone getting frustrated, it is amazing!  It is simply life changing for them and for me – every time.”

When she isn’t spending time with her family or channeling her creativity into painting, reading or journaling, Tammy Caswell is helping those who struggle with hearing loss.

Tammy’s pursuit into the hearing profession is rewarding on both a career and personal level. When her son was only four and a half years old, he was diagnosed with severe sensorineural hearing loss. For 16 and a half years, Tammy has witnessed the effects of various hearing aids on her son and uses that real world knowledge to help her patients find the most appropriate hearing solutions.

“My family matters to me most,” says Tammy, “And my eldest son who has hearing loss is my inspiration.”

Tammy has been working for HearingLife Canada for just over a year, (beginning in July of 2015,) but her commitment to her work is already very apparent. In addition to working as a Hearing Aid Practitioner at the HearingLife Canada clinic in Lethbridge, Tammy takes extra steps to stay up-to-date with the latest hearing health industry developments. Tammy received her Hearing Aid Practitioner diploma from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. She is Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences and certified in Industrial Audiometry.

“Mentoring “Hearing Aid Practitioner” students keeps me current and relevant in this profession,” says Tammy. “I’m also thinking of going back to university to pursue a science degree.”

In addition to being a hardworking Hearing Aid Practitioner, Tammy participates in the National Campaign for Better Hearing which awards hearing aids to those who need them. For every free hearing test that is taken, the campaign sponsors donate $4.00 towards the purchase of brand new aids.

“I LOVE the Campaign for Better Hearing!” Exclaims Tammy, “It is such a proactive way to assess the hearing health of Canadians and a great way to help those in need receive hearing devices when otherwise they would not be able to.”
